By now, we here at Buy the Kindle Fire are pretty sure that you have heard of the newly released tablet by Amazon called the Kindle Fire. In the tablet market that has been dominated by Apple, one has to wonder when will true competition come for the tablet market leader? The Kindle Fire will offer a strong alternative and we at Buy the Kindle Fire believe it will do well. An intriguing aspect of the Kindle Fire is that it competes against the iPad without directly doing so.
Buy the Kindle Fire
The most obvious fact that jumps out at you is the amazingly competitive price of the Kindle Fire at $199. For consumers in the hunt for tablets, yet are worried about dishing out roughly $500 dollars for an entry into this arena, The Kindle Fire could become an instant no brainer for them. All we have to do is think back to win HP had their own “Fire” sale (no pun intended) in order to get rid of their tablet inventory (which was not selling) and reduced them to as low as $99 for the 16 GB and $150 for the 32 GB. Needless to say, they sold out of those items in a weekend’s time.
Now hold on. Before you get too excited, please understand that with the low price of the Kindle Fire there are differences between it and many of the base models of other well known tablets, namely the iPad. However, we here at Buy the Kindle Fire believe those differences will serve this product well.
Screen Size
The iPad has a larger screen than the Kindle Fire. It is a difference of a 9.7-inch display for the iPad compared with a 7-inch screen on the Kindle Fire. This might be an issue for some. There are those who would want a larger screen for game or movie use. However, we believe the 7-inch screen should be fine. Before tablets were created, we here at Buy The Kindle Fire have seen people watch movies, play games, and watch TV on smart phones with smaller screens and be content with it. So while this may be an inconvenience for some, we believe it in no way should be a show stopper for someone interested in stepping into the tablet arena or simply expanding on what they currently own. Additionally, the Kindle Fire is smaller and 50% lighter than the iPad, and Amazon says it’s “easy to hold in one hand.” This can be quite appealing to users who want to take their tablet on the go.
Apps
The iPad has more apps than the Kindle Fire due to the fact that the Kindle Fire will be running on a modified version of Android 2.3. This in turn will limit the number of apps for Kindle Fire users. An article at PC World stated “Apps for the device will come from the Amazon Appstore, but Amazon stocks a fraction of the total number of Android apps available now–just 10,000 of the 200,000 in the Android Market.” The iPad has access to roughly 400,000 apps in the Apple Store. While we see the advantage of sheer volume of apps going to the iPad, we here at Buy the Kindle Fire believe that will not be a big issue. For example, we think about those people with cable or satellite television. One has many channels to chose from, yet most of us have a core set we actually watch. We will typically channel surf if we do not find anything on our normal channels and who knows, we might actually find an additional channel to include into our core network. In paralleling this to our experience with our iPAD, we quickly found a core set of apps that we enjoy. When bored, looking for an app to solve some a problem, fill a void, or simply allowing us to purse an interesting pursuit, we used the Apple Store. Knowing that we have 400,000+ apps to choose from is an awesome feature, however we are not able to sift through all of them and in the end, all we care about is getting an app to do the task we have in mind. With that being said, we are of the opinion that the Kindle Fire will have a well crafted app store. Even though it will not have the volume, we believe Amazon is savvy enough to make sure the most popular apps are available for the Kindle Fire’s launch.
Hard Drive Space
The iPad provides a 16 GB hard drive on it’s initial iPad offerings for the Wi-Fi and 3G options. The Kindle Fire is reported to come in an 8 GB size. Obviously, the size advantage goes to the iPad. If you are thinking that this might be a downer, do not worry. With the Amazon Cloud Drive, you are able to get 5 GB free! Can you imagine the flexibility this will bring to your tablet/mobile computing experience?! This cloud service can be used for storing photos, music, and movies. If you need more space, there are tiered plans ranging from 20 GB to 1000 GB that can be purchased for flat annual rates.
Camera, Microphone, Web Access, and Battery
The Kindle Fire will not have a camera or a microphone like the iPad 2 has. So for those who like to or plan to use their tablet for video chatting, video recording, or taking photos, the Kindle Fire will not do that (like the original iPad). The Kindle Fire has Wi-FI and not a 3G option. Additionally, the iPad’s battery life is around 10 hours and the Kindle Fire has a battery life of 8 hours. There are certainly some gaps here when compared to the iPad however for the $199 retail price, this could possibly be something you would look over.
Buy the Kindle Fire-Additional Kindle Fire Facts
The well priced $199 Kindle Fire provides many features that will make it an interesting tablet to watch come this holiday season. As we touched on earlier, the price point makes this product for one a slightly less expensive gift for a child while a parent does not have to worry about them having a random video chat with someone they do not know over the internet. This price point also makes it much more palatable for most consumers to enter the tablet arena with a tablet that should do the things it is supposed to do quite well. Although it does not necessarily go head to head with the lower priced iPad or even some of the lower priced tablets made by other tablet makers, the more we here at Buy the Kindle Fire learn about this product, it appears as if it really was not meant to be a direct competitor in that sense. The Kindle Fire appears to be poised at doing what Apple did with the release of the iPad, which is creating a niche within a niche.
The Kindle Fire appears to have an esthetically appealing screen setup (from early reports). Kindle books, Android apps, and movies and TV show interfacing looks great. The Kindle Fire will have access to the company’s vast selection of movies, TV episodes (check out Amazon Prime. Kindle Fire users get it free for their first 30 days!), books, and music. Downloading content and integrating it into your device or Amazon Cloud Drive appear to be pretty simple. Of course, it’s difficult to say just how deep and smooth the integration is at this point. Until November 15th, all we can do it speculate!
